Minchumina Origins

I met Elizabeth and Herbie through my good friend, Maggie Pollock. I only knew Elizabeth as "mom" and was surprised to find out she was Elizabeth! I can still remember Herbie giving me a big hug each time I saw him and the way he always said "Jeannie" as he hugged me made me feel like I was one of his five daughters! Herbie was a famous dog musher running the Iditarod race making a name for himself as the "Shishmariff Cannonball."

This is a parka that I made while living in Barrow, Alaska.

We wore the clothing our mother sewed from the furs our father trapped. I am the cutie in the white rabbit parka.

My early years growing up at Lake Minchumina. Our dogs were our playmates. My father had a team of five huskies which he used as he trapped in the local area.
